A few questions to help clarify your problem:
1. Did you add and new software/hardware prior to the issue occurring?
2. Does last known good allow you to boot?
3. Does it boot in safe mode?
4. Seems there is a problem with Windows 2000 that was corrected in SP2. What service pack do you have installed?
5. What is the exact error message you are seeing and when?

see about 60% w2k bar and then says you have a corrupt or missing FAstfat.sys file!

Sorry more questions:
1. What service pack was installed?
2. Did the system ever work?
3. Is it a blue screen stop error that is displayed?
The standard fixes for this problem are to:
a) Disable all file system filter drivers, such as backup utilities, virus scanners, or firewall software.
b) Ensure the integrity of the file system by running Chkdsk.exe.
c) Check the file properties of the Fastfat.sys file to ensure that it matches the current version of the operating system or service pack.
d) Update all disk, tape backup, CD-ROM, or removable device drivers to the most current versions.
Unfortunately most of these cannot be done without rebooting. If it is indeed a corrupted file you can try and ecover a copy from the Win 2K CD. If you send your email address I will send you a copy from my system.

I bascially walked into this blind. Never seen the problem and the old IT help is gone. I think it only has SP1 or less. The system did work until about a week ago when a client rebooted it.

the system will not boot at all it gets 60% on the bar at the F8 screen and then an error of corrupt or missing Fastfat.sys files.. MS says that it's multi-files missing???? I dont know, do you?
When sending the file can you send me some directions on how to get these files into the right dir. thru dos.
