Right-click the toolbar and de-select the Quicklaunch?

Maybe go to C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer and delete the folder called "QuickLaunch". Do the same in your network folder if you are on a network with roaming profiles.

If memory serves, the OS will simply recreate it.

Not sure, but I think he's talking about the items in the Systray (which is in the bottom right), and not the quick launch bar (which is in the bottom left)....

These might not be the best ideas, but here are some things I have done at various times:

Tray Magician hides the icons in the system tray, even the time/date if you so choose. The problem is that the user can interact with the program if they know where to look for the controls, or run across them accidently, and disable it.

If you are looking to hide a specific icon, try installing the app as a system service. The tutorial on one way to do this is HERE. Even if you don't use this tip for this particular issue it is still a good thing to know and will undoubtedly come in handy at some point. I used it to run the anti-virus and remote control server applications in the background so the users can't disable them.

As I sit here writing this it occurs to me that you might be able to use Tray Magician to hide the system try, but install it as a service and disallow interaction with the desktop so that it can't be disabled without admin privileges. I haven't thought of that till now.

if you mean the quick launch items you can right click the taskbar and go to view. uncheck quicklaunch.
