Hi,
How can i edit the names of two IE6 Toolbar buttons please. I found how to remove them: http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/968/ but the problem is, the two i have left, Norton AV and Panicware Pop-Up Stopper Pro have somehow got the wrong names! (when i activate one, the other runs and vice-versus !)
I need to edit both and swap their names over.
Thank you.
Nic.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have look here in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions
Expand the extensions branch. the subkeys are the extra toolbar buttons which these programs have added. Hight the subkeys and look in the right pane for the information. You can change ButtonText. Also change MenuText. That's what appears under the Tools Menu.
But. Before you do that, have a look at
C:\windows\Downloaded Program Files
See if there is an object in this folder for either or both of these programs. If there is, right click on
it(them) and choose properties.
Look at Status. IF it says, damaged, delete it. You may then have to reinstall the program.

There is nothing relating to these two programs in C:\windows\Downloaded Program Files, however, neither are there any subkeys in the Extensions branch. It is empty. Does it make a difference that these two programs are removable with a right-click from the toolbar?
Thanks for thre reply.
Nic.

Look in the Programs themselves for the option to show on the IE toolbar. Other than a reinstall of the individual programs I don't know what to suggest. XP is very different from 9x.

Hi Mosaic
I've downloaded a "FlashCapture" program, that adds a button to IE's toolbar for saving the embeded .swf files in web pages.
After a while i unistalled the program, but the button still stays in IE's tool bar . What about if I delete the key that belongs to this progom under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions ?
Would it delete the added control from tool bar or not? I have also extension for Real player, or several other softs that I prefer to get ride of them.
thanx for your help
Edited by MnInShdw on 10/24/02 01:10.

MnInShdw,
Yes. If you were to remove the subkey belonging to it, that would remove the entry from the IE toolbar.
Absonic,
Glad you got that settled.
