Hi there I used a cleaner type program, Registry Healer (with care) now it found what it said was an obsolete entry in c:\windows\system Msvbvm60.dll version 6.00.8964. How can I find out if it really is obsolete or if its in use?
I use Win98SE, with all updates IE6.0 SP-1 Thanks for any help

Its a Visual Basic runtime. If a registry cleaner says its an invalid entry usually means that the entry is pointing to something that don't exist. Check if the file is present.

Thanks for your reply, It does exist in c:\Windows\ System.
The Reg Healer said its obsolete whatever they mean by that the file is 1.32mb in size.
I've sent it to recycle bin & didn't get any alarm bells on restart , maybe I should wait a week or so before giving it the chop, thanks again theelf

That file is support for any programs you might run which were written in Visual Basic 6.

If you try to run a program written in VB6 and that file is missing, you are going to get a runtime error. It does not usually exist in Win98 and has to be installed.

I don't know which utilities you have installed, but if they are written in VB6 they are not going to open without that file.

I would put it back and then go to start>run and type and press enter this to register it again:
regsvr32 Msvbvm60.dll

Thanks Mosaic1 for your reply after hearing your diagnoses I think I'd better put it back in system & re-register it /images/forums/icons/shocked.gif Good One
