I'm trying to get DirecWay satellite service running in Windows Me and Hughes is telling me that my regsvr32.exe must be corrupt because it cannot register their dpcevlog.ocx control. They suggested I download a new regsvr32.exe from Microsoft per a KB article that is 5 years old. The downloadable version is listed as being for Win95 and Win98 (WinMe didn't even exist then), is triple the size of the version on my PC, and has a mod date that predates my version by 5 years. I'm pretty sure they are wrong about the compatibility of this ancient file with Win Me, especially in light of the fact that the registry is structured differently in Win Me than in Win95 and Win98 (according to this forum). Can anyone clarify?

Also, I am puzzled. The regsvr32 doc says that a dialog will be displayed to indicate the success or failure of an attempt to register controls manually, but I am not seeing such. Part of the reason why they think my version is corrupt. However, I have tried this on multiple Windows Me systems and the results are the same. I really don't believe they are all corrupt, especially since the machines all work in other respects.

cth2002,

I also use WinMe. My regsvr32.exe is dated June 8, 2000. It is 40kb. If you need a copy, post your email address and I can send one to you.

Sorry, but I'm unable to answer your other questions. Check back here as the others are far more experienced than I and can likely answer them for you.

Sure, send it to cth2002@hartneyfamily.net.

It's interesting that my versions are all 10K. The downloadable version from MS is 30K. Humm.

Anyone else: I'd still like feedback on the issues in my post! Thanks.
