View Full Version : Windows Explorer Folders Side Missing

My Windows Explorer doesn't look right when I open it. On the right side are the files (like normal) but the left side is just gray. There is no way to drag and drop files and it's just not as user friendly to find files, etc. I've tried different views, etc. but can't figure this one out. I hope I've described it to where someone can understand and hopefully help me fix this problem. (I have Windows ME).

There's a quick and dirty fix for IE versions up to 5.01, but not for 5.5 and up, as far as I'm aware.
Sometimes reinstalling or upgrading Internet Explorer helps fix this, and that's what I'd advise you to do for a start.
Cheers, Tony

In Windows Explorer go to View > Explorer Bar and place a check mark next to Folders. That should put things back in order.

To clarify my problem - I can select on the Toolbar the selections View/Explorer Bar/Folders and the left side of my menu splits but the Folders are not being displayed.

Move the mouse over the vertical bar separating the 2 panes and when the pointer changes to a double-headed arrow, click and drag it to the right. Does the drive tree now show?

As I said, reinstalling or upgrading Internet Explorer sometimes fixes this.
This is because Windows Explorer and IE are intertwined, and share many of the same files.
If this is Win 95 or 98, the ExplorerBar value in the following registry key could be damaged:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main
Go there, and delete the ExplorerBar value in that registry key, and then restart your computer.

Sorry, Tony, I can't replicate the problem.

Hi Bert,
My reaction was intended for Ugene, rather than for yourself.
Sorry if I wasn't able to make that clear.
Cheers, Tony
