Anyone know of any problems we may encounter if we rename our My Computer icons to the name of the computer or user?

victag,

Have a look at <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/370/>Show User and Computer Name on Desktop (Windows NT/2000/XP)</a>. I think it does exactly what you want.

You didn't say what OS you are using but it doesn't really matter. You can rename your puter ( my Computer) the Recycle bin, in fact a lot of stuff. XTEQ ( Sorry) does it, Winboost 2001 does it, and of course the beta of Tweak Manager does it. Now problemo. What the previous person was responding to was your name on the Start Menu ( I think.

no she was refering to renaming "my computer" to something else. ie "joe smoe on 212-02" It works I know because I tried it.

P.S. the OS is NT

<pre>If "I am" is the shortest sentence, is "I do" the longest??</pre>

bhackner,
I just re-read my post above and realized it probably sounded kind of harsh.
Please believe me when I say, I didnt intend it to be mean or patronizing.
I sometimes forget that online, without tone or inflection, words can have different meanings.
My apologies.

bhackner,

The first sentence of the tweak I referred to says:

<font color=blue>"This tweak will rename "My Computer" to "Username on Computername" making it simple to determine which computer you are logged on to and which username you are logged on as."</font color=blue>

From my understanding, I think that's exactly what the original poster wanted to know. Actually, he wants to know if it will cause him problems, which I don't believe it will or it wouldn't be that popular a tweak.

BTW, it is the same tweak that is in TweakManager and the two other programmes that you refered to as well.

Regarding the OS. It will usually appear in the Subject Line above the first post in a thread. Not always, but usually.
