I would like to re-install or repair my media player because some clips of drag racing I tried to watch recently failed, it said in the status bar that it was looking for "codecs".
It failed to download codecs is what it said. I used to have MP 7.0 but I sacked it because it was to slow on my system. Any help apreciated extremely

Win98SE
IE6.0 - SP-1

BTW how do we describe thje version of Internet Explorer now it has the SP-1 update, do we say IE-SP-1 or IE6.0-SP-1 I'm lost on how to write it

Thanks in Advance everyone

Hally, here's a link in case you need to remove and reinstall media player. What about using a different player ie. quicktime etc.

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp>http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp</a>

Sorry, I don't know the answer to your other question.

Hally,

I believe you could call it either IE6 SP1, or IE6.0.2800.1106 - the last description is found in Help-About IE.
IMHO, if you want everyone to understand you, I'd say IE6 SP1.

Great link stratcat250 thanks very much I will see how I go after a reinstall & I would consider a different player like Quicktime or some other one but will they play *.avi, *.mpeg & all the same as media player 6.4. Plus one other thing I didnt like MP 7.0 because it was too slow, huge resource killer, I'm wondering how Quicktime or some of the others go on this subject.

Thanks Again

Hi,
A couple of us at work have found the Nimo codec pack the answer to all codec problems.
http://www.btinternet.com/~nimosiro/
With new codecs being used in ever increasing variations, this has been the easiest way to "stay on top" Follow the instructions and you should never see media player looking for codecs again.
