1. The search list has absolutely no structure. I used another competing product that was able to identify folder structure etc (especially as only 3GB of the harddisk was overwritten)
2. Once a 'corrupt' file is checked, it will always try to be recovered, slowing the entire process down.
3. There isn't a function to 'save' search data. Even when switching between the options menu the data is lost. This isn't to useful when searches take several hours. I was going to say ...to complete, but I've never witnessed one finish.
4. Because of number 3, there isn't a way to verify which files have already been recovered, so one cannot continue from where they left off.
5. It would be nice as an alternative to have multiple file types with same filename, instead of prompting, to just increment the file number.
6. Scanning comes very slowly. While searching for only MP3s, which were at the beginning of the hard disk, 1500 songs took over an hour. Competing software recovered 150GB of data in 30mins.
7. As a result of all these quibbles I've not been able to recover all my files, not because it didn't find them, but because of the man-hour it requires, monitoring the software for popups. Ideally I'd like to run it, press recover and have it do it all automatically. Trying to get a refund for this product is very difficult.
8. Little or no documentation exists for product. Effort seems to have been placed on other more award winning software.

I also just purchased file recover as I had inadvertently wiped out a 80G HD/
After allowing it to run for 24hrs, it still was not done searching clusters. I wrote to the support and inquired whether that was normal and the respone I got was 80 Gigs is a big harddrive and to give it time. I went to the Western Digital website and browsed their forums and there learned about a different program.
I installed the trial version and it had searched my hd within 30 mins. and showed all deleted files. After purchasing it only took 1 hour to save them.
I am pretty darn disappointed with File Recover....

Hmm...

I've been trying version 6.1
Ran the "Start Quick Scan"
It scanned my 4 partitions (total 250GB SATA drive) in about 2 min
Returned a complete and exaustive list of deleted files
Selected my 6 files
It recovered them fine

I'm very please, so far.

Cheers.

Jack

Thanks for the valid comments; they have been forwarded to the development team to consider for the next version.
