I was reading a tweak on how to disable APM I'm wondering why would someone do this, is it a vital component or is it something to do without for performance reasons!
Click Here if you want to see the tweak /images/forums/icons/wink.gif I'd appreciate any thoughts. . . . /images/forums/icons/smile.gif Thanks in Advance

Hally,

Advanced Power Management is exactly what it says. It is the ability for the operating system and BIOS to manage the power consumption of the major components in the system. The standard process is to set up a combination of watchdog timers that get reset every time one of the power management components get accessed. If the timer times out then the component has not been accessed in the specified time frame and the device is put into low power mode to conserve power. The common components that are monitored are the HDD and the monitor.

If APM is diabled then you lose the ability to go into standby and hibernation.

There is a slight overhead in using APM but I for one would rather have the power management capabilities.

Cheers
Andy
