I am really confused about all the search options in IE6, so I thought I'd ask for help!

Ok, I want to be able to search from the address bar WITHOUT putting any prefix and for IE6 to search Google rather than MSN. So I type "whatever", press enter and it searches Google for "whatever". Also when I mistype a url, I want it again to go to google and search rather than msn.

However, I also want to keep the prefixes so that I can search other engines, like "ask whatever" to search ask for "whatever". (I already know how to do this.)

I am not interested in all the sidebar searching options at all.

I'm sorry if there is a reallly obvious answer, but I couldn't work out what reg change or otherwise did what and I could't get it to search google from the address bar.

Many thanks,

Killermink

Thanks, but that is for when you want to use the prefix method, as in you type the shortcut name first then the search query, wereas I would like to have it to search google without any prefix.

Do you know how to do this?

Hmmm...I see that now. Sorry.

Well, I've done some searching and I've dug up this</font color=blue>[/b] (http://www.google.com/options/defaults.html#default><font) from Google and this</font color=blue> (http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/37400.html>[b]<font) from Computing.net. I'll keep looking as I would like to do the same. It's just never been a priority for me...

Would the Google Toolbar</font color=red> (http://toolbar.google.com/><font) help?

or maybe make Google your default search engine

Hello and Thanks. I tried the Google page solution before, but all it appeared to do was change the sidebar setiings to a google side bar, which I am not really interested in. Also, with the google bar, it wouldnt allow mistyped urls to default to google, which is the main thing I want it to do.

I found this http://searchenginewatch.com/sereport/02/04-ie.html (http://www.bobjohnson.cc/news/web12.htm>http://www.bobjohnson.cc/news/web12.htm</a>,) and this lengthy discussion <a target="_blank" href=http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20289312.html>http://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Win2000/Q_20289312.html</a>, but on following the advice I dont have any other engine in autosearch settings other than msn, though there is space for more. Has anyone else got these methods to work?
