Hi I am using IE 6.1 and I cannot delete my visited web pages in history. The tool/internet options/clear history does not work. The only way is to right click and delete one by one. Any ideas? thanks

rdy,

As a work around, for the time being, you can use <a target="_blank" href=http://www.microsoft.com/ntworkstation/downloads/PowerToys/Networking/NTTweakUI.asp>Tweak UI 1.33</a>.

On both the Paranoia & IE tabs, you will find ways to clear your history.

Keep checking back here as the others have far more experience than I. They will probably be able to help you fix your problem without using an outside utility.

Nana. Thanks for the reply. I made a shortcut to the history folder and placed it on the desktop. I now hit select all and than delete and that gets rid of them. Crude but it does work. Ron

Ron,

I'm glad you got it working - however crudely. I think you should continue to check back here, though. Someone else may know what is actually wrong so you can correct the initial problem and get the "Clear History" button in Internet Options working properly.

This is all i could find

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.aandrc.com/cacheerr.htm>http://www.aandrc.com/cacheerr.htm</a>

It doesn't offer a solution so maybe the only thing you could try is an IE-repair

You probably have a corrupted History folder (or at least a corrupted History index.dat file).

Delete your History folder from MS-DOS.

Windows will create a new one on reboot automatically, and it ought to solve your problem:

Start the computer in MS-DOS mode.

Type the following lines, pressing ENTER after each one:

cd\
cd windows
deltree history

NOTE: Press Y if you are prompted to confirm any deletion

Type win (or 'exit') followed by clicking enter in order to return to Windows.

NOTE: This is assuming the path to your History folder is the default one.
Is it's elsewhere/named differently, adapt the path accordingly.

Cheers, Tony

TonyKlein. Thanks for the reply. My first time in dos. Everything went okay except wouldn't exit back to windows. Waited 10 minutes and rebooted. Anyway it worked fine and I can now delete item in my history folder. thank you Ron
