I had my share of issues in the past with SP released from MS.

Ive got lots of computer where i work, over 650. Just wondering if its safe to start installing that new SP 3.

Thank you

We are currently using it with no issues but like all new updates the problems are mostly environment dependent so if the majority of people have no issues it is not to say that you will also have no issues.

I would test it out in the lab first and then roll it out to a select group of users for beta testing before committing to the rest of the users.

Cheers
Andy

Hi,

I agree with Andy. Personally I have had no problems at all...but test on a few machines before network rollout.

Hmm, I disagree with what's been stated so far. I too held back for a while before finally succumbing and installing SP3 but I now regret it and am planning to reformat and go back to using SP2 + the cache writeback fix.

If you install SP3, you won't be able to download any updates from Windows Update site until you install IE6. Yes, a cunning ploy by Microsoft. And if you also install SP1 for IE6, you'll end up with some really nasty bugs. Even if you just install IE6, you'll get stuck with the bugs that are in that and also a wishy-washy WinXP-type presentation that'll look out of place with the rest of your Desktop.

No, I'm going back to SP2 and (IE5.5 + Internet Tools). They worked flawlessly for me.

I think it's been yet another case of Mr Gates knowingly releasing a service pack with unresolved bugs in it (in July they actually admitted to that) and, to boot, incorporating a mechanism that'll force you to swap to IE6.

SP3 running fine in our ORG.
I have SP3 and am still running IE5.5 SP2 but I can still download from Windows Update with no problems.

Like the others have suggested. Try a few machine first before the large rollout.
