Hi all,

Specs: W98SE, 128 ram, 450 mghz P3

I had to replace my hard drive a little while back and now I'm having trouble getting my Network logon to come up when I try to get to my company's network from home using a VPN connection over the internet. I have "Client for Microsoft Networks" setup just as I had it setup last time. I also have "Microsoft Family Logon" setup to restrict the kiddies. When I signon to the Pc, I get the Family logon, type my password, hit enter and then there is a delay and then I get a message stating that there is no Domain Server available to validate my password! Of course there is no domain server.... I haven't tried to access my company network yet!!! I've checked all the settings and they appear to be set correctly. I have TCP setup. I have file and print sharing setup. I have the correct domain info. I have the VPN adapter setup. I have the Protocol setup. I'm lost....

How do I get the Network signon to come up AFTER my user name & password is validated on the RAS when I get to my company network so I can logon and why is it coming up at initial logon to the puter instead?

In other words:
It's all working correctly, it's just coming up at the wrong time and not when I require it...! How do I fix this?

It reads to me like your VPN is trying to auto connect before you have an Internet connection established. Do you dial in to your company first or do you have to rely on an established Internet Connection before authenticating through the VPN?

What's the exact error message?

Do you have this computer connected through a Lan?

To further isolate the root cause, set the Primary Logon to Client for Microsoft Networks and forget about Family Logon for the time being.

Bingo,
Client for Microsoft networks is trying to connect before the connection (VPN) is established or actually before I want to connect.
This is how things used to be:

1- I'd signon to my Pc using Microsoft Family logon.
2- When I would decide to work, I would click "My connection" (desktop shortcut) to establish a connection to my RAS at work, then....
3- Immediately after the connection was made, I would get the other signon for the Network and I would be in.

This is not happening now, It's trying to logon to the Network before the connection is established or before I want to establish a connection!

So what's the problem....?

go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Connections tab

Make sure the VPN connection is set to Never Dial a connection.

While in the Connections tab, go to the Lan Settings button and make sure there isn't any checkmark in Automatically Detect Settings option.

Bingo again,
I changed the setting, hit apply, tried "My connection" and after the connection was established, there it was....my Network logon!
Thank you.
