i guess you must really enable your registry editing tools...like the poledit in win95 you cannot go to regedit if you disable the registry editing...if you are really the registered user of the computer you must know how to enable the registry editing tools.....
or you can put all the default registry of your computer if you save it using the scanreg in msdos

I would think, if you're the one that disabled them, you'd know how to re-enable them?
There is no registry editing in DOS.

the scanreg that i've posted is not an registry editing tool.... it just backup existing registry and restore the saved registry of your computer....

I already said, no....twice!
"Regedit Command Line Options"
"Regedit has a number of command line options to help automate it's use in either batch files or from the command prompt. Listed below are some of the options, please note the some of the functions are operating system specific.
regedit.exe [options] [filename] [regpath]
[filename] Import .reg file into the registry
/s [filename] Silent import, i.e. hide confirmation box when importing files
/e [filename] [regpath] Export the registry to [filename] starting at [regpath]
e.g. regedit /e file.reg HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT
/L:system Specify the location of the system.dat to use
/R:user Specify the location of the user.dat to use
/C [filename] Compress (Windows 98)
/D [regpath] Delete the specified key (Windows 98)"

I don't know if this is what you're asking, but have a look at the Registry Tuttorial.

I just have to say that you sure can edit the registry from the dos-prompt, we do it every now and then here at work. BUT, you don't get any GUI so you can't browse the keys or values. But, as Nana describes, there are a couple of commands that work in dos, to edit, add and view registry keys and values.

Easiest way to get around this? Poledit. Load up poledit.exe on a floppy. Rename it to notepad in case you also restrict yourself to run only specific programs. Load up the common adm files. Open your local machine in poledit and uncheck any and all restrictions you want lifted, including locking down the registry editing tools.
Then, you're in like Flynn.

Thanks I didn't know that. I'd never seen that tutorial.
I don't imagine you can undo restrictions or anything though. Which is what the poster wants to do....bypass restrictions, apparently.

Actually, by using the poledit method, since there are no inherent restrictions with a FAT file system, you CAN and WILL remove restrictions.

No problem undoing the restrictions, as far as I can see. Since most of the registry values are boolean variables, all you have to know is what key you're looking for and what you should change the value to. A bit difficult maybe, but it works.

Nilsson,
The point here is that this poster says he put the restrictions on in the first place. If you'll note he says he disabled the start button, Explorer, the registry, etc.
I doubt very much that this is the case. If it were so, why wouldn't he have a way to re-enable the registry? Anyone that knows how to apply restrictions, certainly doesn't need to ask how to undo them.
There are a lot of people and school kids who have posted on this forum wanting to know how to bypass restrictions, that they have no right to! This is fishy, in other words. /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif

This forum does not help people bypass admin restrictions.
federico_s10,
You're welcome.
WinGuides has an incredible amount of information available.

You're assuming he hasn't made a mistake.
The registry guide here on this site has a tip for disabling the ability to edit the registry. It includes a warning about not locking oneself out of the registry.
People good up all the time. I really don't see the danger here. Furthermore, you're still ignoring the fact that I have already provided a perfectly workable way around the restriction. Damage done, get over it.

In case you haven't noticed, the poster hasn't responded again. I'm sure he could read the email responses, so why are so worried about?¿
Get over it yourself! The only thing I'm ignoring is you!

Since when is replying to me ignoring me?
The lack of sense you make is really quite impressive at times.
Do this. Get a test machine. Install Win98. Disable Registry editing. Then, follow my instructions for using Poledit to circumvent those restrictions.
Then, eat some crow.

You know. This kind of post is one of the reasons why I do not come around as often as I did. All this constant bickering and lecturing of both the Posters and each other is very negative. It helps no one and makes for an unpleasant atmosphere. And it seems to be all too frequent here lately.
People come here for help. So let's help them. I don't blame people for not responding. Let's not drive them away. Please!
My two cents.

I came back to say that the reply was labeled as being to Mocha. But she is not the only one. Let's get back to the reason why we are here and let the Moderators take care of the rest.
Me again.

I agree with you totally, Mo. I hadn't been in here for awhile until a few days ago when I needed help, and I must say I don't like the tone in some of the posts. We are here to give suggestions (or ask for help), and noone is perfect.
Regards, Per
Me three! I'm sick to death of it.
This kind of nonsense could destroy WinGuides. Is that what anyone wants?
Maybe it's time the Moderators put in their two cents worth, too.

I would think that if someone gave out the wrong info, whoever corrected him/her would at least be civil about it.

Mo,
You're right, and I'm truly sorry for all the unpleasantness I've caused.
I realize I'm very outspoken and opinionated. If I don't watch it, things get out of control, and I know that's the case lately. It's never my intention to spoil things for anyone else.
I sure don't want to be the one to create an unpleasant atmosphere or drive people away. Least of all you, or any of the others that have been so much help on the forums.
My apologies to everyone here at Winguides.
Carol
