My current ISP setup disk has put its web page in as the home page and grayed out the box. Any way to unlock it? They said they were unaware of this and that upgrading the netscape software would remove it, they were wrong. Any help is appreciated
It's my understanding that your ISP is not only aware of this but is responsible for it. I ran into this situation when helping my neighbor get set up with his computer. I called his ISP and they gave me a couple of ideas - one possible solution and one workaround. The solution worked for me, though supposedly it doesn't in every case. I've included the addresses to this ISP's web site where the directions are already written out. Even though they mention that this works only for specific versions of Netscape, this worked for us on Netscape 4.5, too (and in WIndows 98, by the way, not just the Windows 95 they mention).
For an actual solution that removes the lock, go to:

If that doesn't work, try this workaround until you can find a solution. This one won't unlock your homepage but will let you substitute whatever page you want for the one you're locked into now. (You or your ISP may have placed Netscape in a different place than the example on this page shows. It doesn't matter to the workaround.)

If you still have problems, send me a private message and I'll try to help.
Good luck!

Chris, that worked with one additional step, I had to delete the profile.cfg from the users folder. Thanks for your help. Bill
