I have a computer running W2K in a very accessible location that is to be used to run only one program. Is it possible to hide the desktop from the default user profile so that the only thing visible on the screen is the actual program to be used, but have the desktop accessible when logged in as an administrator?

In short, no. You can run alternate shells, such as LiteStep and create a very minimal desktop environment. If you're on a Novell Netware network, you can use the Netware Application Launcher as a shell, and allow users to only use those applications assigned to them.

Or, you could go <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/forums/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=secwinnt&Number=66111&page=&view=&sb=>here</a> and read up on setting users to "run only assigned programs." Be sure to exclude the account you want to have full access.
