i have a computer network at home, and in the last couple of days, it's been taking a very long time to move files between computers, specifically from/to 1 computer; what causes that? that has happened sporadically before but it went away and i never did know how to fix it or know what was going on with it.

Thanks.

Could be a kajillion reasons for slowness but the first thing to do is reboot all machines and see if it is fixed or if there is no change.

Some questions for which the answers will impact suggestions:
What kind of network, peer-to-peer 10/100?
Does it use a hub?
Is it Cat5 cable with RJ45 connectors or coax?
If it has a hub is it displaying full speed, 100Mbps?

There may be other questions.

We all, each of us, have a uniqueness, some of us enjoy it, some of us don't.

thanks for responding,

um, it's peer to peer; i have 4 computers at home here and i use a linksys router; the odd thing is that if i were to move files from this omputer to another one, it's normal speed, and from the troublesome computer to the third , it's normal speed ; it's only slow like this when it's between this computer and it; and it doesnt do it all the time, just very seldom

Check the network cable routing. Being too close to a sub-woofer speaker, UPS, under a surge protector, across light fixtures, near heavy current-draw devices, can cause erratic behavior with networks.

A poor crimp of the RJ45 connector can cause problems, the wires don't fit securely against the contacts.
