Problems wit Custom Error Pages (W2K)

i am having a problem with installing custom error pages on my server(404, 500, etc). i know where to do it (IIS manager --> select domain --> properties --> custom error --> URL, file, etc) but the server does not recognize it. no matter what i change it to, it pulls the error message from my local computer (for example, 404: res://C:\WINNT\System32\shdoclc.dll/http_404.htm#http://test.certainteed.com/edge.htm). i looked over other posts and could not find an answer that covered my probelm. anyone else have this problem and/or know the fix?? i need my server (sites) to be able to use their won custom error pages)

Do you not have to put the error page in a certain folder where all the others are, then do what you have already done?
