Ok, so now that win 2k is installed successfully in the same disk as win 98 but on a different fat 32 partition ,configured as E:\ and it dual boot as prescribed, GUI is good, but all is not normal and here are some of the probs, primero: there is no sound , secundo: when I try to open a cd that I burned (and closed to be read on any cd rom) with programs (not music) in it, that I want to install, win 2k ask to format it, tercero: Do I have to reinstall all my programs again of there is a different way of doing business with win 2k I'm sure there are more issue but I'll stop here for now! Your input will be appreciated...

try updating your motherboard BIOS and then reinstall Win2K (use the repair option when reinstalling).

In device manager list, only Other Devices are marked yellow, and multimedia audio controller ,and PCI Simple Communication Controller, are yellow as well ,but all the others are fine, it seems that is a win 2k problem rather then the mother board, because during installation it detected and installed my SCSI zip 100 and my HP printer and my roms too, of course I've to install the adaptec platinum for my sony burner, I'm getting off the subject here ! I just like to fix this sound thing. Now everything is working as it should the cd roms fixed myHP printer and iomega scsi zip 100 all loads and work fine, the only prob is the sound!! and if you guys can help me fix it, I'll pay with a billion thanks!!/images/forums/icons/smile.gif

the reason why I suggested to update the motherboard BIOS is because I encountered a simillar problem when I install Win2k on my PC. (there was no sound and the mouse does not work)
After updating the BIOS and reinstalling the OS everything worked fine.

If you dont want to do this probably u can try removing the device from the Device manager and then restart the PC and let Windows reinstall all the necessary drivers.

hope something here is useful.

Do you have any error messages in device manager related to the audio controller?

Looks like you may not have the correct drivers for the controller. Do you know what type it is?

Cheers

Double click on the devices that have the yellow exclamation marks and log any error details that are displayed.

There should be some error information detailed when you look at the properties for each device. If you can't find the information then look in event viewer and check the system log for error messages.

These problems are normally due to the wrong driver installed (especially if it works okay in W98). Boot to Windows 98 and get the details from device manager on what audio card is installed in the system. This will identify the card you have and then we can look for the correct driver for it.

During your Win 2000 installation, you should have been presented with an Upgrade Report, where Setup lists software and hardware that may give you problems under Win 2000. In my case, my sound system was listed, so I expected I would need to install a Win 2000 driver after the upgrade. That's exactly what happened: When I downloaded and installed the Win 2000 version of the driver, my sound returned.

Simpatico,

I've sent you a utility that will help you identify the sound controller on the system board and from this we can determine the correct driver. Post back with the details reported by the utility.

all this???? did you install the sound card drivers after you installed win2k? the soundcard won't work without em you know and the error you're looking for in device manager probably says something about just that...right click on something with a yellow exclamation mark and choose "properties" what's it say?... that'd be my first guess...and yes you'll have to reinstall all your software too...win98 knows about it but win2k has no clue any of it is there
