Spyware Doctor keeps crashing for some reason and when I uninstall it, it doesnt. I been using Spyware Doctor for quite a while now and I never had these kinds of problems before, but now everytime I start my computer it crashes and an error pops up. Everytime the computer crashes, it creates a file in minidump folder in C:WINDOWS. Spyware Doctor is the best Spyware program that I've ever used and I prefer if I could find some way to fix this and not let my money go to waste. And yes, I tried reinstalling the program, it just keeps creating the same problem.

Help me :(

hi kjk8288,

what sort of error messages are you receiving?

It says something like program has just fixed a critical problem... a log has been made to fix, would u like to report this? and if I look for details it says something like C:Windows:Minidump:Mini1xxxxxxxx and everytime the computer reboots, the number on Mini1xxxxxxxx increases. Example: first error mini1xxxxxx1 then after it reboots another error log says mini1xxxxxx2.
I tried deleting the files that was being created but it didnt help either.

Try re-installing the program in safe mode. Download a new sdsetup.exe and then start up your computer in safe mode. It may be possible that another programing is corrupting one of the files.

Hello,

I'm having exactly this same problem. I bought Spyware Doctor today. After I installed it, I ran a scan, fixed the problems that it found, and then when I went to close Spyware Doctor, the program hung. I had to manually cut the power to the PC to get it to shut off. When I restarted, as soon as Windows XP loaded to the desktop, XP went into it's reboot on fail mode, and after rebooting got back to the desktop, only to keep repeating the reboot. In safe mode, I disabled all of Spyware Doctors startup services and procesees via msconfig, and then in safe mode I was also able to start Spyware Doctor and I disabled it's startup at XP startup. I rebooted, and finally, XP would load without rebooting. But, as soon as I click on Spyware Doctor, like I'm going to start it like any other program from the start menu, the computer immediately reboots. Spyware Doctor was installed on a fresh install of XP, so the install sequence went; XP, XP updates, ZoneAlarm, Firefox, Foxit Reader, Open Office, everything else, and Spyware Doctor was the last program I installed. It's a great program, and I would really like to use it, so any mad scientists out there who can work this out, I would really appreciate it. After the Windows error report data, I included a complete description of my hardware and software configuration. I used Belarc's Advisor system information tool to capture the details. Belarc can be found here http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html . What is interesting, is that Belarc indicates my Spyware Doctor version is 3.6, but, I bought and download version 4. Does PC Tools have a bad link on their website?? The windows error report contains the following information:

It seems that there is a conflict between Spyware Doctor 4 and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite 7, from now on I'll call it ZAISS 7. Anyway, over on ZoneLabs forums, located here http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs, other people are also reporting this issue.

So, does Spyware Doctor 4 not play nice with others, OR does ZAISS 7 not play nice with others. Either way, I hope you guys at PC Tools will work on a solution.

Hi there,

Go to the main splash screen in Spyware Doctor, click on help>about, you'll see exactly which version you have installed, if you have just downloaded it from the PC Tools site it should be Version 4

This may be a Spyware Doctor issue but I noticed you have ZA installed and it was installed early on in your sequence of installations.

I have just left behind a hoard of problems with ZA, 6.5.737.000, that also so many other users where experiencing, that included incompatibilities with other security programs, the general advice from other user's is to install it last on a sequence of 'mixed' security application installations.

I had numerous communications on both their forum and Tech. Support and spent weeks trying to troubleshoot it and sort it out. Tech. Support where basically hiding behind their aprons, that there where problems (something that PC Tools Tech. Support doesn't do)! and nothing they asked you to try worked, but after constant badgering I got a reply saying that the issues would be resolved in Version 7, which I see you have installed.

This is just an observation on reading your post, but it could be anything. Sorry I have no positive resolution. If you don't get more expertise help soon on the forum do submit a ticket to Tech. Support, they do take your issues seriously. ;)

Sorry your post just went up while I was typing mine, what a coincidence :D

I did an edit on the previous post but it didn't work.

I can confirm that for almost a year now I have used Spyware Doctor and ZA with AntiVirus without any issues. All the problems started with an update to the AV Engine in ZA 6.5.737.000, which was all supposed to resolved for version 7.

As my subscription was up for renewal just before the release of Version 7 I didn't go ahead with it, as I refused to pay for a product that wasn't working properly!

My current set up is Kaspersky AV 6, (trialling), Spyware Doctor (On-Guard Enabled) and PC Tools Personal Firewall Plus, (free but giving it a test if you like). I also keep Spybot Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal on board for the occasional on demand scan only. All this has just happened for me in the past few weeks. I have no issues, all are working together, system is stable, and have a new found boost to my surfing speed and generally navigating my PC since taking ZA off and using this combination!:D, not to mention a saving on a few mb's of ram! It was an agonising decision to take ZA off, I have used it in one shape or form for years.

I have been over on the ZA Forum keeping an eye on what's going on with Version 7 but for me, after a month of 'blood, sweat, tears' and getting nowhere with it I am not ready to go back to the problems, or give ZA any custom

Good Luck:)

Hi,
Installed SD latest version today, and the first scan froze. Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldn't respond so had to do a hard shut-down (holding the power button). Restarted the computer, auto-scan was running and hung so I tried to do an Un-Install and that program froze as well...another hard shut-down. Started in safe mode, and again tried the Un-install and it froze again....so did a System Restore to two days ago and XP started up normally and the Spyware Doctor is gone!!! :)
However, I had to manually delete the Program Folder. It will be a "frosty Friday" before I try this defective program again. Now to get my $20.00 back...
I hope others have better luck with it.

Dear Bob H,

Do you also have installed any Zone Alarm Product and if so what version? What other security Applications do you have installed?

Chippa

Hi Bob H,

As allibear has suggested, there may be a conflict with SD and another program causing it to crash. SD has been running on my machine for quite some time now and everything is working A OK (excellent at removing spyware and adware). I try not to run to many security software as this will increase the chances of the system to crash/slow down especially when you run real time protection from several software.

Before you try to get a refund, you may want to try Spyware Doctor 5.0 as this should be released next week. As seen in other posts, this should be a much faster/enhanced spyware remover.

Cheers,
Chippa

Cheers Chippa for hopefully giving Bob H some confidence in Spyware Doctor. The only reason I brought up the ZoneAlarm issue is that today I have been hunting around a few forums/reviews and there are many reports of conflicts with ZA Version 7 and 3rd party Anti Spyware programs in general. I believe ZA are looking into this. I had my Issues with Version 6.5.737 but thankfully it didn't crash Spyware Doctor! I just thought Bob H was possibly another case of this, by the symptoms he was describing.

I have exactly the same problem as bob h.

The pc crached mostly as the scan is on 89%, en then the pc didn’t react annymore. But the pc frozen also by starting SD up or other times also. Tried the Un-install and started in safe mode, and again it froze again

At last what i installed was PC Security from tropical software, but it’s no ZoneAlarm Internet Security I think.

I hope I can solve this problem. Thanks

This is not official QA testing but I just quickly tested our beta version of Spyware Doctor 5.0 with ZoneAlarm Suite 7.0.302 and had no problems. No issues booting with both installed and active, I could even scan simultaneously (something definitely not recommended) and it worked albeit a little slow as expected.

Our QA is going to do some further comparison and testing of the two prior to the launch of v5.0 next week.

Best,

Simon

Honestly, I don’t know about bob, but I have first searching on peer to peer to SD. I know, its not the correct way, but maybe that has cause the problem?

Do you mean you got your copy of Spyware Doctor off a peer-to-peer network? If that's the case then, no, it's not really the right way to do it ;)

I would suggest you download the real Spyware Doctor from http://www.pctools.com/spyware-doctor/download/ or wait until next week and get v5.

That being said it does sound like there is a legitimate problem with v4.0 and ZA being discussed here that is not just related to questionable downloads.

As a heads up downloading any applications off a peer-to-peer network is dangerous at best, we've seen not only damaged copies, but numerous cracked versions that contain backdoors and bundled Trojans. I would recommend running anything downloaded off these through a good antivirus and antispyware but if they came from the same place they could be compromised as well.

No Xander it is definitely not ZoneAlarm. I did a quick Google and found the site, is it tropsoft.com, (just want to make sure I have the right one)!, however McAfee site advisor give me a yellow warning for this site and when I checked the info, there have been yellow graded downloads from the site, ie some people would class as minor adware spyware annoyances, nothing too serious. 'Winvestigator' is flagged as being the dodgy download, classed as a Generic PUP a. Is 'PC Security' the one that offers 'multiple locking systems for the the windows environment and Internet'? I tried to find reviews for this product on any other site but all my searches just led me to Tropical Software at tropsoft.com That would concern me personally.

I am not familiar with this site or any of the software. How long have you had Spyware Doctor installed and when did the problem with it crashing start, did it function properly before you added your last program? If the answer to this is yes try uninstalling PC Security and test Spyware Doctor then.

If I have a program that behaves nicely for a while and then starts playing up I try to recall what changes I may have made that coincide with when the trouble with the program started. I then start to undo those changes one by one, to pin point the problem, (if it is a conflicting issue).

It's worth a try anyway.

Sorry Simon,

Your post just appeared as I was typing mine, it took so long as I was searching for information on the other mentioned program at the same time, to see if I could make any positive suggestions to help. If I had of seen your post first I wouldn't have wasted my time

Only positive suggestion I have now is a complete 'exorcism' of the PC in question, or if it was me a reformat and start afresh! :p

PS. Those test results will be good news for the ZA 7 users I am sure they will be grateful for PC Tools efforts in resolving this.
