Copy the file under windows directory System.cb (do not rename) to System.ini
Edit the new system.ini and add the following lines:
Under the [Boot] section add
drivers=mmsystem.dll
mouse.drv=mouse.drv
Under the [386Enh] section
mouse=*vmouse, msmouse.vxd
Now you have a basic system.ini file without third party drivers
Hope that works for you...

Apparently, that is what you need to do, is reinstall your OS. The system.ini file was created when you first installed, so it's a customized file.
There's no way to replace it otherwise. You can't subsitute it with another file or create a new one.
I probably didn't explain this properly or use the correct wording, but it still comes down to the same thing. /images/forums/icons/tongue.gif

95.
boot to safe mode and search for files named
system.syd or system.bak
If found make a copy of one of them and move it into the windows folder. rename the copy to system.ini
restart the pc.
If none of the files are found, email me and I'll send you the one I have.
98.
Boot to safe mode and navigate to the C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP folder (the sysbckup folder is hidden by default. (Set your explorer settings to show all files).
Move to one of the 5 rboox.cab files. Open the file and extract the system.ini file into the windows folder.
reboot.

Oh my...It looks like I'm wrong, but I've seen that same thing mentioned many times, that you need to reinstall?!
Sorry about that, and MS has an article on how to create a new one and a list of the default entries that belong in system.ini.

I know Pat's already given you all the info. you need, etc. I just thought I'd post it anyway. In fact, now that I think about it, I think I posted the link to someone awhile back on how to do it.
It must be old age. I'll try to be more careful! /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif

Pat,
Golly, I've seen so many people say that very same thing...that you need to reinstall. I think that really stuck in my mind, even though I recall now posting the MS link to someone on how to go about it. Good grief..../images/forums/icons/crazy.gif
My apologies, especially to the poster.

I have no idea. She may have removed it. If no one replies to her post, she'll have the option to delete it.
Thanks for posting the MS link!

You're welcome....
Under the circumstances, I just had to check. Even though, I know, that you know what you're talking about! /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif
About Nana's post, I thought it showed as deleted on the forum, if you removed it. I must be wrong again. /images/forums/icons/crazy.gif

My reply got lost when I was editing it and my #$% computer froze!
What I said was that Mocha's instructions were absolutely clear to me and if I could easily understand what she said, anyone else certainly should be able to as well! Also, I wrote that the system.ini file was specific to his OS and that its' contents would be unique to his computer.
Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of it so I can't repost it accurately, sorry. /images/forums/icons/blush.gif

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
I'm lost on the post showing deleted on the forum. Where would I go to check that?
Unless hers had derogatory statements or contained bashing of any kind, us mods would leave it as is.
