My registry editor appears every time i turn on my computer. How can i make it go away?
I've scanned for viruses, checked the startup folder, and looked through the registry editor to look for any run/load commands.
If it makes a difference, I am a kazaa lite user.
thanks for your help!

Did you go through Msconfig? It might be in there.

Heather,
You've probably checked in the msconfig startup already, haven't you?
Doing this will display a list of your startups, then you can post it and hopefully someone will be able to help.
Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Now paste the contents in your post.

Heather,
I sure wish someone else had the answer for this, since we'd worked on it already. /images/forums/icons/tongue.gif
I know there's got to be an answer somewhere. I mean, who wants their Registry editor opening everytime you bootup! That would be very annoying.
Do you by chance have Ad-Aware installed, or have you ever used a spyware removal program like it? Sometimes spyware can do strange things.
Carol
Heather,
When you run MSInfo32, what you see on your monitor is a Help & Support Menu. It should be in two panes, like an Explorer window.
In the left hand pane, under System Summary you should see 5 entries:
+ Hardware Resources
+ Components
+ Software Environment
+ Internet Explorer
+ Applications
Isn't that what you are seeing?
Each of these expand to give you several choices. The one Carol referred to is found by clicking on the + beside Software Environment and clicking on Startup Programs.
Then, in the right hand pane, you should have a list of everything that is starting with your computer. After that, continue to follow Carol's instructions. Choose Edit, Select All, Copy. That should give you the list that you can paste into your answer here.

Heather,
I'm sorry that I didn't give you more explanatory instructions to begin with.
The reason for posting your startups, is that someone can take a look at the list to see if there are any trojans, spyware, or other components on your PC that could be causing your problem.
It's not always that easy to figure out. That's why there are different steps to take to try to find out what's going on.
Nana gave you good step by step instructions, so I assume you understand what you need to do.

well, i never got around to trying out that help menu again. a friend of mine gave me another program/applet that fixed the problem! in case you are curious, it's from the following website. it allows you to see what's in your startup and turn things off and on:

but anyway, thank you all very much for your help! i appreciate it a lot!

Heather,
Thanks a bunch for letting me know. I'm glad you got it taken care of..... finally!
I would have never thought to suggest something so simple. That's a very good idea! I have that Startup Ctrl. Panel, and it certainly would be an easier way to find out.
I don't use it much, so that may be why it didn't cross my mind. Thanks for sharing that idea. /images/forums/icons/smile.gif
Take care,
Carol
Heather,
Mike Lin has another neat program called StartUp Mpnitor. I love it. It certainly shows you how many programs want to nose their way into your start ups - some of them fairly ridiculous.
