How in this world do I completly remove a program from the registry. Explain...I had prob with MS Office Prof 2000. Tryed to re-install...no good. Comes up with put cd in drive(where it already is) and says look for data1.msi yourself. I figure if i get rid of every sign of it from reg then all will work fine as a clean install. All files have been deleted from drive, Office folder has been removed from hklm/soft/ms/, and i also removed anything that mentioned office from the components folder. Hopefully i have given enough info..if you need more contact me. THX
jmduke3,
First of all, did you use Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel to uninstall MSOffice, or did you just delete the folders?
Have you used Find under Edit within Regedit to check for any other entries you may have missed?
Also, what about looking for entries in the registry regarding the individual components - like Excel, Access, Word, Outlook etc. Would that make any difference?
There are many people here with far more knowledge than I can ever hope to have, so keep checking back for better ideas.

Just deleting folders, etc. isn't the way to remove any program and certainly not an Office program. There are shared files involved, and MS has manual removal instructions for Office 97.
I'd came across this and thought it was worth saving!
Office 2000 Eraser:

Carol,
Thanks for the heads up about Office 2000 Eraser. It looks like just the thing to help jmduke3 with his problem.
I hope he didn't just delete the Office files & folders as his removal "tool". That's how to create havoc in one quick & easy step!

Nana,
That's what he said he did, I believe. He removed all files and folders in different areas on the hard drive. Now he wants to know what to look for in the registry. /images/forums/icons/shocked.gif It's good they asked before attempting it anyway.
Well, there definitely would need to be specific manual removal instructions for a large Office program.
Even the smallest of programs should always be removed either in Add-Remove programs or by running an uninstall file. The uninstall file could also be named unwise or remove.
Yes, that's a good thing to know about. In fact, just within the last couple weeks on this forum, someone else wanted to know of a way.
Catch ya Later,
Carol
