This weekend my computer just started rebooting itself at random. Also, after it boots up, the boot stalls and when I go to task manager - the windows explorer is (not responding). I would really appreciate any advice. Thanks

REplace windows ME with a better Operating system like windows 98. (To all you SCRANMAN fans out there, that means you Nana, I'm back to kick some Windows ME and Microsoft butt. In verbal form of course)

Replacement of ME is all I can suggest. THe other thing it could be is overheating in your machine but Im'm geussing you have no way of telling that. Thats what happened to my freind now he added a few blow holes he has no problems. (That was the heat he was using windows 98).

Explorer not responding is a regular occurence in some of microsofts products like windows ME and 95, Without a re-install thats all i can offer. Sorry

~SCRANMAN~

What do air con and a computer have in common. Neither work with windows open!

I wouldn't be so hasty in replacing ME.

It’s most probably a hardware problem.

I've seen this happen to XP & W2K machines

Scranman,

Welcome Back! I've missed you. /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

I see you're starting where you left off - WinMe bashing. Trouble is, lots of people (like me!) can't afford to run right out & buy a new OS, so we have to do the best we can with what we've got. When we need help with WinMe problems, replacing the OS can't be our first choice - no matter how much we'd like it to be.

pewp,

Have you scanned for viruses with updated virus definitions?
I'm sorry, I can't offer any other ideas. Keep checking back here, there are many 'regulars' & lots of visitors who will likely be able to help you.

Not everyone is like Scranman, who is on a one man mission to get WinMe off the planet. Even he has many good suggestions - as long as it's not about WinMe!

Maybe this will help,

Open Control Panel, choose system, select the Advanced tab and click the Settings button under the Startup and Recovery heading. Under System failure, un-check Automatically restart

Thats the setting for XP, ME may have something similar.

Nana, am i close or way off the mark?

WinMe doesn't have these items in System Properties.

i had the same problem with a PC. The problem was a bad RAM module. Could also be a faulty power supply.

Hi I've seen this a few times it's common & if your lucky its only dust. . . simply lift off the lid & carefully dust\clean the ram slots I used the family vacuum cleaner, no joke! After cleaning the ram chips & replacing in clean slots the problem was fixed. . . like I said if you're lucky, I was
