high color (W95)

My computer is stuck on 16 colors and won't go any higher, ive tried about a hundred times to fix it but it won't go any higher or let us run many programs. Please email me a reply or post it.

Stuck in 640 x 480 x 16 colors:

Windows "forgot" what video card and/or monitor you have so, to tell it, right click the desktop, click properties, click the "settings" tab.

Click the "Advanced" Button
click the "adapter" tab
click "Change" button
click "Next" in the wizard
select "show a list of drivers"
and click next
Wait for it to finish "building a driver information database."

In the new window, select "show all hardware." If it lists the correct Video card make and model, click Next and finish it out.

If it doesn't, select your video card maker, and the model in the right pane. Click Next and finish out; restart if prompted.

I'm really stupid and i don't know what driver to select, how do i tell?

That doesn't mean you're stupid. It should be the only one that shows up. When you click "Change Display Type", it should show the name of the one already installed.

Also, you can find out in Device Manger by right clicking My Computer icon > choose Properties. Then under Display Adapter, click the plus sign to expand, and it'll tell you which one you have.
