I'm Win98 upgrade from Win95 with MSPlus!. Does anyone know how to change the default directory of Themes to another drive. I would like to remove them from my C:\ drive and place them on my larger secondary drive. I know when I do this I will have to modify some Theme Masters to include the %ThemeDir% command. I can't find any info anywhere on how to move the default but frequently read that the %ThemeDir% command is there to know any location where the Themes might be stored. I'm sure this is a Registry hack as TweakUI has several redisgnations of Windows locations but not for Themes.

When posting this on tech baords, I've heard every scenario under the sun, from 1) I have to reformat and reinstall the OS (which isn't going to happen, 2) Can't be done since its part of the OS (I'm sure it can since other default OS directories can be moved via TweakUI), 3)Must always be on Drive C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes (which defeats the purpose of %ThemesDir% command.

MSKB speaks much of the %ThemeDir% command but doesn't say anything about how to change the default. I've scanned the Registry and see lots on the default but they ALL include references to Theme.exe (with some switches) which implies to me that the executable might need to be moved as well but I'm not sure and won't do anything until I know more.

Thanks!

The Themes sub-folder on my Win98SE computers is in C:\Program Files\Plus!. It comprises less than 8MB, less than 9MB for the whole Plus! folder for the standard install.

I would think that uninstalling Plus! and re-installing it on another drive might work the best as all the Registry entries would be taken care of.

If I needed to save disk space, I would use Device Manager, Performance, Virtual Memory to move the swap file to the other drive, it's a much larger file [10 to 50 times larger] and would certainly save the most drive space on C:.

We all, each of us, have a uniqueness, some of us enjoy it, some of us don't.

Thanks for your response.

My Themes folder is over 150 MB (my own custom creations and additions from outside sources as well as original Themes) so space is a concern. I've long since taken care of InternetTemp files and SWP file moving them to the secondary drive and I still want to do the same to Themes.

I've thought about using W98 Setup to Remove and Reinstall Themes but I'm being cautious ... 1) I'm not sure if it will ask upon reinstalling for a drive/folder location, 2) I'm not sure if it will speak only of Themes or other components of Plus! which can, depending upon versions, might include other stuff like Task Scheduler, Defrag, Drive Space, etc.

I was just hoping a few simple Registry setting might do the trick. I spent a few hours today in a few book stores going thruogh Windows Manuals and can't find squat on Theme Registry Specs, other than %ThemeDir% will direct instructions accordingly based on the default Themes drive and folder.

Any further suggestions are appreciated.
