What program is supposed to open OE DBX files? I've tried all in the Open With and nothing works. I reformated and saved all mail on a disk but now I can't open the damm things, no problem with the addresses, just sent and recieved messages that I wanted to save, they ended up as dbx and I can't open them...Thanks to one and all in advance..jackha

You have to put them in the correct directory, then you'll be able to open them in OE. You can't open them in another program.
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identies\****(long combination characters)\MS\Outlook Express

Mocha..Thanks a bunch, it took awhile for me to figure out how you meant to do it but I finally did and now I have them back in OE.. I have been screwing around all day trying to figure out how to do that.. How the hell did you ever learn how to do that in the first place? Well thanks again, bet I don't forget that.. Jackha

You're welcome...
It's not that I learned how to do it. I just searched for my .dbx files using the Find utiltiy, then typed in the path to the correct folder.
I did learn that you need a .dbx extract program in order to make those readable in a text editor. Even then, there's a lot of gibberish mixed in. /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif

Well that explains why when I tried that it didn't work. I didn't have any dbx files to find, all I found were files in OE that were put in after the reinstall, Come to think of it why weren't they in the identities file too, all that I found in there was a bunch of numbers, now there in outlook and identities.. Oh well it works and that's all that's necessary.. Thanks again Mocha I think that's about the 3/4 time you've saved me, I think I owe you a bunch. THANKS

Jackha,
You're welcome......it sounds like you worked at it pretty hard, before asking someone. I probably couldn't have answered that several months ago.
I know, I owe a lot of people many thanks for all the time they've taken for me on this forum. I'm glad I'm able to help once in awhile.
