You must run a thorough scandisk test including surface test. This will fix the bad sectors. Remember that surface test takes an awfully long time. But my advice to u is change ur hard disk at the earliest because once u get bad sectors, they will go on increasing till one fine day u may not be able to boot and u will have lost all ur data!!!!!!!!

Suggest that you run scandisk from the dos prompt. If you don't know how shut off your pc from the switch and restart it, Scandisk will run and ask you if you want to run a full check on the drive say yes, and let it find all the bad sectors then get a new drive and move all your data to the new one or else it will stop working, another thought have you a virus protection program, Symantec,Mcgafee, etc try running that. Being that you don't have the error on startup I would suspect a virus first .
Good luck
