Hi:

I'm no doubt responsible for my own problem, but I can't figure how to correct it.

On the icon for "volume" (toolbar, lower right) you click on it and then to check the sound level, you click on the "bar" and hear the "bong".

Well, mine doesn't work. My sound card is fine, everything is playing fine with my sound. It's just that it doesn't work for this test for level.

I went to MY COMPUTER\CONTROL PANEL\SOUNDS and looked it over, but I can't see what the catagory would be for that sound. I thouht that some how it may have been turned off.

I opened up the menu for the "sound icon" and everything looks fine and is not closed.

Any suggestions??

Thanks,
ve6tp

Windows 98 Default Sound might be the .wav sound you want. The file is in C:\Windows\Media and on mine is named Windows 98 Default Sound.wav.

Be sure to open Multimedia in Control Panel and check that nothing is muted that you need. Double-clicking the speaker will bring up a different volume control to also check.

We all, each of us, have a uniqueness, some of us enjoy it, some of us don't.

Hi Bert:

Thanks for your reply, but that's not quite what I need to know. Yes, the sound woulld be a file in the WINDOWS\MEDIA and I believe it is just the "ding.wav" file. The file is there and plays manually, no problem.

What I am asking is: In the controls for turning "sounds" off or on for events when they are used, what or where would this be located or called?? I dopn't know what to look for and make sure the sound source is turned on. My problem may not be here, it is just a thought I have. Possibly it is accessable somewhere else.

Thanks again Bert, much appreciated.
