Using win98se on C & D SCSI hard disk drives.
I also have an EIDE 40gb hard disk drive partitioned in 4 x 10gb drives E,F,G,H.
I want to put a new program on my formatted E drive.
Do I have to put the OS system files on the drive in order to run the program? Or, can I just tell the program to install on drive E?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Absolutely not, When you installed a new program on the new E drive, the program files will go to E drive. However, most programs will copy some dll or system files to the c:\windows or whatever drive you put os.
If you have C drive as in win98se and D as in NT, and install a program on E and wanted two OS have the same program, you will have to install twice on each OS.
Again, it depends on the prgrams you are installing, some program (DOS) will not save onto any registry files, it will just put it in the folder, in that case, yes, only E drive will take your program, then you don't have to reinstall twice.
Hope it helps.

Thanks a lot for getting back Homeflash,
That's exactly what I wasn't sure about.
I want to put my cdrw program on that drive. It will come in handy when I want to copy files etc. to the hard drive first and then send them to the cdrw. I'll be using an external SCSI cdrw. Lots of compaints about ECDC 5.1(j) on the various sites. Hope I have some kind of luck when I do it this way!
