From My computer click View>Folder Options>File types.
Scroll down to your desired file type & you'll be able to change the program from there

Or do this:
Select any file of the type you want to change.
. Highlight the file file by clicking on it once
· Hold down the shift key and then right-click your mouse
· Select "Open With" from the menu
. Pick the application of your choice.
Be sure to check the box, "Always use this program to open these files".
· Click "OK" and you are all done!
Now reboot to register the changes.

Many times the program you want to use will have in its options or preferences menu the choice "make this program the default for opening this type of file" or something similar.
