spyware has taken over my computer... (WXP)

i have tried in vain to exterminate all the spyware/adware on my computer but keep getting popups and my dialup connection dialing when no one is actually doing anything. if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.

You may have had a Web dialer installed on your PC, without your knowledge.

There's a program called Spybot you can download here. Use with caution. Note: it doesn't remove "all" dialers.

Well, it always helps to know what exactly it was you already did.
Did you use a properly updated Ad-Aware to scan for spyware?

Spybot does find some stuff Ad-Aware doesn't target, and vice versa.

You emptied your Temp folder completely, got rid of your cookies and temporary Internet files?

Could you show us your startups, please?

Go to Start/run, and type Msinfo32, followed by OK.
Go to Software Environment/Startup Programs.
Click Edit/'Select all', and then 'copy'
Now paste the contents in your post.
