Hello all,
I need to know if the product key to the operating system is in the registry. If it is I would like to know where I could find it. I need to re-install Win2k Pro, but I lost the book that came with it. I guessing that buried deep within the registry somewhere lies my answer but I do not know where it is. I hope some one can help me....
Thanks in advance..

I have looked through my Win2000 Pro registry and haven't found it. Seems that MS does not save the key in the registry on Win2000/WinXP like they did in Win9x. Probably it is either not saved or is encrypted so as not to be retrievable, all part of their plan in cutting down on piracy of software.

We all, each of us, have a uniqueness, some of us enjoy it, some of us don't.

You might try to do a search on the local hard drive for

$winnt$

Open the inf and the key should be in the inf.
Somtimes there is also one in the I386 folder as well, open it in a notepad file and it will diplay the Keycode
