Which CPU are you using? There are problems with some AMD processors and the display of JPEG's, basically when you view them the image quality is very poor, furthermore, the larger the image the worse it looks.

This, I believe covers all AMD chips excluding Athlon XP, but specifically the K6-2. I have seen this once before and changing the CPU solved the problem.

This is my theory anyway...

i have Pentium III, but i recently bought a Western Digital HDD, and jpegs only show distorted in IE, not on anything else, its like if IE downloaded them poorly... and when i had Windows millenium before, with the same CPU, they showed all good.

Have you changed your OS? You have said: "when i had Windows millenium before, with the same CPU, they showed all good."

I think this could be related to the lack of some codec's on your computer. I really am not sure too sure what to suggest but I am sure someone will be able to help. Possible reinstall and/or update of IE6?

when i had a Maxtor HDD, i used millenium, then xp, and everything was fine, but recently by a virus infection my Maxtor HDD was done for, so i bought a new Western Digital HDD, and installed millenium, and the problem showed up. Yesterday i upgraded to Windows XP to see if that could fix it, (installed OVER Millenium, not formatted) but the problem is still there. i had IE5 on millenium, and i installed IE6, but the same...

do you know where i can get those codecs and how to install them??
