Well..this is my second question today, I'm just full of questions. I had a strange issue with booting this week and I'm not going into full detail but what ended up happening is that I installed XP Pro and my system began to work again, after I was sure everything was fully functional I prodeded to delete the fluffly OS. but now it haunts me in my boot. When I open my boot.ini its not there, but when I load up I get a multilple OS choices menu with Windows XP as one of the choices! do the arcldr.exe and arcsetup.exe have anything to do with this? and if not how should I go about correcting this problem?

Here's how I might tackle the problem. Go to the System properties (either through Control Panel or Right-Click My Computer) and get to the Advanced tab. Click onto Startup and Recovery at the bottom. Uncheck the option that says to "Display a list of Operating Systems..." and make sure that W2K is set as the default.

Win2k is the defult OS and I'm afraid if I disable list of OSes the stupid XP ghost will override and try to load ghostwindows, which is currently reading as default in dos.

Post the contents of C:\boot.ini. In XP you will have to unhide the file by selecting tools > folder options > view and uncheck show protected operating sytem files

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional" /fastdetect
thats the boot.ini, and Windows XP No Longer Exists on this Local Machine.

Change the line :
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOW S
To:
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
Cheers
