I was just wondering but does anyone know if there's a way to change the default "program files" folder. the partition its currently on is running out of space, so I was wondering if I could just drag and drop it onto the larger partition and edit something in the registry so that it registered as being there

This would be a very long task but it can be done. I would recommend against doing this as many service packs for various applications are dependent upon c:\windows\program files. Changing the location would cause problems when installing some service packs.
Look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\

Not only Service Packs look for that folder but also program installation routines. Example: Microsoft Office 2000 and XP will allow installation on D: drive but still puts 2/3rds of itself in C:\Program Files and the Windows folder. Programs not by Microsoft stand a better chance of being installed on a different drive.
