Hi there,hope u can help.

Firstly can i say i dont know a great deal about computers.

I have only got a 56k modem and just now cable isnt an option for me so ive been surfing trying to find ways of tweaking my connection.
I came across the following paragraph and thought i would try it even though tinkering with ur registry can be delicate.

Now for the juicy bit here that I'm sure no other tweaking websites has (especially Tweak3D.net, hey guys =P, link the tweak to my site if you do use it). This one over-clocks your modem from a measly 115200 bps to a possible 230400 bps! That's double the speed! This tweak requires some fancy regedit steps and … err, nothing else much but knowledge. Now listen carefully. Go to your modem's reg key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Class\Modem\000#\) and look for a setting called "Properties" (not a key name, just a bin within the modem's key). It should have a long list of numbers and letters, two by two… double click on it to edit it. Near the last row of those numbers (Seventh from the end, usually) should be the combinations "C1 02". If you see these nod your head, if not then look harder. Not click your mouse cursor before those and press the delete key twice to get rid of them. In their place put in "84" and "03". Now exit out of regedit and go into your Dial-Up Networking properties and click to "Configure…" your modem. Where it reads "Maximum Speed" click the pull down menu and look below 115200 to find a new number… 230400 ! Now your modem can send and receive stuff twice as fast [from it's buffer, not ISP].

When i entered regedit and followed the steps above after HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Modem\ all i had was not found!

Maybe im being a bit ignorant but any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Nicky. :)

First of all, was the tweak intended for W2K?
In Regedit, when you got to Modem were you able to click on it to reveal 000#**? Or, is that where you found nothing?

I tried the tweak on my own system (WinMe) to see where it would lead me. Herre's what I found:

I drilled down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Modem\000#\ and left clicked on 000#. **In my case, it wasn't 000#, it was 0000. I think the number sign is a place holder for any number in that fourth spot.

So far, everything had been done in the Left pane of Regedit. Now I looked in the Right pane. There were several entries & values. Amongst them was the Properties entry mentioned. It was followed by the "long list of numbers and letters" - a hex number. Indeed, seventh from the right hand end was the value stated, although mine was reversed - "C2 01".

I went no further, as I use Cable for my ISP, so I'm unable to tell you if the tweak works.

Here are some pointers with regard to using Regedit. If you aren't extremely careful, you can crash your system. So if you aren't entirely comfortable using it, maybe put up with the non-speed of your modem or find someone who is comfortable.

Make sure you backup your registry before you even open Regedit. Before you change anything, export the key you'll be working on. Click on Registry - Export Registry File (or words to that effect) when you're in Regedit. This will give you the key if you need to reverse the change at some point down the road.

I hope this was of some help to you.

Ta for reply Nana,
Regarding whether the tweak is for win2k, in original post i found tweak it didnt say which OS it was for.doh!
I drilled down to this
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Class\Modem\notfound

when i expanded the modem folder the nxt folder said "notfound".
By the sounds of it the tweaks for me :(,so ill just have to budget better and get cable!

Thanks again for reply
Nicky.

Nickyboy,

You're welcome. Sorry we couldn't fix you up, though. /images/forums/icons/frown.gif
Maybe someone else will come along with other ideas, so check back again.
