View Full Version : Remove My Computer (W98)

This restriction that removes My Computer from the desktop and Start menu is not work'n for me. The OS is win98 SE. I have checked it 10 times to make sure that I have it all right in the registry and still get nothing. Can anyone help with this? This windows registry guide link ' http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/1043/ ' says its for (All Versions).

Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: ( 1 = remove)
Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID
Delete {20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}

Thanks Dan, That was quick! Couldn't have done it without you. I really think they should change that page though. It really cost me some time following and check'n directions and it didn't work....but I am learn'n!

I do hope you exported the key for safekeeping before deleting it.
You may want it back someday...

Tony is right it would have been a good idea to export a copy of the key before deleting.
If you ever need the key in the future just give me a shout & i'll be glad to email it to you

I sure did keep the key. That's the first thing I learned from the boards and reading you answers.

i found the key and deleted it .. i cannot open the icon but the icon still exist on the desktop .. help

This will put your registry entry back. It is not adviseable to remove that key. It can lead to system instability. As Per Microsoft.
Copy the Bold to notepad.
Save as My Computer.reg
Double click to merge into the registry.
