Internet explorer 6.0 (WXP)

Unable to view beyond some website web pages, such as banking and credit card. Anytime I log onto one of the sites from my favorite I received a runtime error message: MS visual C++ runtime library, C:|programfiles|internetexplorer|explorer.exe, only gives me only a choice to click ok, and kicks me off line. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?
I have tried everything I can think off, disabling scripts and so forth, nothings working!!!

The only thing I can think of is that the url has exceeded the maximum permitted length and this is generating the errors. Not sure how to fix it but I am sure someone here will be able to.
