Hello,

I'm using 3 different OS on my clients in my domain.Windows NT4 Workstation,Windows 95 and windows 98.Accordingly to microsofts white paper about profiles and policy's,you can't apply a policy that is created on a windows 98 computer,on a windows nt4 workstation. My problem is,that I only have 1 domain controller and therefore 1 netlogon share in which they all (nt4ws-95 and 98) automatically check for an existing policy. So when I create a policy on a windows 98 computer and then place it in the netlogon share, all the nt4 workstations will download it,eventough the policy wasn't designed them (with errors etc. as a result)

How can I specify where the 98 computers and the nt4-ws computers etc. must download their specific policy (automatically!)

Thanks a lot,

Matthijs

P.s. Is there any good resource to download .adm templates for the policy editor?

Hi!

The restrictions you mention, about policys created on w98/95 cannot be applied to WNT, doesn't refer to where you download them. When you create a w98/95 policy you have to do this from a computer running w98/95. Save it as: config.pol in netlogon share, and it will be applied to all machines running w98/95. Create policys for WNT on machines running WNT, save as NTconfig.pol to same folder. This will applie your policys to WNT machines.

If I remeber correctly there is a update for the policy editor available at the WinNT server resource kit that includes policy templates for both w98/95 and WNT. This means you can create them directly at the server and save them as policys for the different machine types.

Sorry that I haven't replied earlier, but I've been away for a well deserved holliday:-) Try this link, should take you straight to the Reskit tools download page:
