Quick Answer:

Spybot is a very useful application that targets some things that Ad-Aware doesn't, like keyloggers, and other pests.

They complement each other very well.

It also covers what it considers 'privacy risks', like cookies, the Run mru list, the WinRar and MediaPlayer and many other recent file lists.

It also finds a small amount of registry inconsistencies, like keys pointing to shared dlls that pertain to programs you don't have any more.

I like the program, and it certainly has a lot of potential.

If you download and install new software on a regular basis, it's worth installing and using in tandem with Ad-Aware.

Hally,

You check every one of them except for the 1.0 Program Update, for that's the one you have already.

You can actually right click that one, and choose 'exclude' so that it won't come up next time you update the program.

For your first scan, you might want to go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' .

That way it only searches for the real nasties.

You can always experiment with the other options later on.

Cheers, Tony. /images/forums/icons/wink.gif

Thank You Tony as you guessed I've only just downloaded it & know almost nothing about it, you put the link to it in forum the other day (I think it was you) and I liked the sound of it. Some of it is a bit on the confusing side, the options & updates mainly, but you've been helpfull as always. . . .Thanks Again

You're welcome.

Once you have it configured (and I admit that could be a little more user friendly), it's just a question of pressing 'scan all', and have SB remove all it finds.

I've had Spybot installed for quite a while. I finally read the user instructions and ran it and it found alot of stuff Ad-aware didn't. I can definately see the use of both programs.
