HI,
Can anyone help? Can I change the default search engine from MSN Search? I'd like to use Ask.co.uk but can't find any obvious way of doing this.
Sorry if this is a bit of a newbie question.

Change the values in the key below to change the default search engine.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\INTERNET EXPLORER\SEARCH

Hope this help...

You need to run the registry and browse to the key I mentioned above.

Start&gt;Run then type regedit

Sorry, forgot to mention that!

Tony,

Thanks for the pointer! Doesn't help when I am looking in the wrong place!

Japniz, follow Tony's link.

Cheers,

japniz,

Another way of doing this would be to download <a target="_blank" href=http://www.winguides.com/tweak/>Tweak Manager</a> from this site. I've found it to be a really great programme and there is an update that will change the Search Page for you automatically.

PS; I just realized, this info is supplied on the link that Tony gave you.

Dear All,

Thanks for the advice.

I think I may not have made myself clear in my explanation. I don't use the 'Search' button. The 'Search' I'd like to change is the default one that is applied when you type any word in to the website address bar.

When I open my Registry, I don't find Search bar, I find the following:
Customisesearch - http://www.ask.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm
And then a second entry for 'Search Assistant'.

As you can see, I've already tried to change the default to Ask.co.uk, but without success.

I tried Tweak Manager, but maybe you need to buy the full product to get the search change function.

Any further help would be most welcome.

Thanks.

OK, here's the one to make Google.com your default search engine (a very wise choise, incidentally):

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

Why not start with this one and modify it to your www.ask.com?
