I recently purchased a copy of Cool Edit Pro 2.0 for recording instruments. It was working just fine, when I first got it, but now whenever, I want to play back what I recorded nothing comes out! It records whatever I play(I can see that from the sound waves), but whenever I play it back, it goes through the song, but nothing comes out of the speakers. I know it's not my computer, because music works for all my other programs such as winamp. I even tried re-installing the program, but it's still the same. I have a feeling that this has something to do with me installing Internet Explorer 6. Before I had it, Cool Edit worked fine, but now it's a mess! I've heard stuff about IE6 sometimes just not allowing sound. Help me, someone!

it happens to my Me before, it seems like it is recording and return no sounds.
This is a Sound Driver problem, not ie6 or cooleditpro2.0.
I suggest you reinstall sound driver. If that still does not work, try to manually delete the sound driver and reinstall the driver fresh. Then it should work.
When it happened to me last time, I got frustrated even reinstalling and didn't work, sometimes reinstalling didn't overwrite the file.
Hope this helps

okay, first make sure you have the sound card driver , if you bought the sound card separately, then you should have it.
second, the sound driver location is as follows.
control panel - system - device manager, underneath that, you should see sound,
and your sound card, in my case either cmedia or sound blaster. then click on properties, then driver , driver file detail, you should see the location.
It should be under c:\windows\system
Best bet is to rename them instead of deleting them
and after you do them, restart your computer, and
if your sound card is plug and play, win98 should be able to pick it up.
Again, I suggest you try to reinstall by going control panel, system, device manager, sound,
properties and update driver and see if that works.
let me know if there is still any problems...

I tried to reinstall it and it said it couldn't find the software for the driver.

okay, in this case, you may have to do a little work.
Open up your case and take a peek or just take the card out for a moment and write down the model number of your sound card and go to internet and try to download the proper driver.
Did this sound card come with the computer or onboard sound card? It sounded like you have everything come with, if by chance you have any problem, you may have to retore it from the restorable cd. In this case, I think it is best bet to get the driver alone. Take a look at the model and download the driver from the net. You may be able to reinstall the driver. Good luck!

Hmmmmmmmm.......I just opened up Cool Edit to check it again, and it started working! Now, I'm pretty sure it is something with IE6. I have heard stuff about IE6 refusing to play sound sometimes. At least, I'm glad I don't have to take apart my computer. :)

Glad to hear that. However, I do not think it is ie6. I have no problem with ie 6 for so long. It could be cooledit? Anyway.... glad to hear that your problem is resolved
