CIH virus stops windows loading register- help! (W98)

Windows stops loading with "registry not found" but scandisk and scanreg report no problem. Scanreg/restore does not do the trick.
I`ve cleaned the virus but the main problem remains.- No Windows! - even after re-installing.
Please help.
