View Full Version : Problems with Mcafee
Hi.
I have problems with mcafee antivirus, running in a windows 2000 server, in the system tray mcafee put an icon, when i double click it automatic appears the system state explorer window, but the error is that it dont show me statistics ( files explorers, infected and cleans,, etc).
I reinstalled the software and the problem continue.
if someone can help me .. I would thank it
tfjr,
What about right clicking on the icon? Does that give you any more choices?

Hi!
I am running windows 98SE and I found that mcafee's install program is not very user friendly I found allot of help info at the mcafee help site... But it didn't cover someone using profiles...
http://www.mcafeehelp.com/
I found with their last update I had to uninstall all of the software then reinstall it... Do the updater update first then the other file also grab the new scan engine and signatures....
I also had to clean out the registry and the mcafee folders... before I reinstalled
I had to install the software on each desktop because of the way it writes the registry on who gets premission to do what...
And Oh by the way don't bother emailing tech support they give you standard B.S. answers...
I give their tech support a minus 100 and that is on scale of 0 to 10...
The two lastest files are
VS060230.exe
RUP104AU.exe
you can get then by going to here
http://www.mcafeeretail.com/naicommon/download/patches.asp
after you run the install program run the repair function on each desktop
The only thing I can't get rid of is the extra entries in the scheudel task and their fix doesn't work....
Good Luck!
Thanks
Mac!!!

Although I believe the protection offered by McAfee's product is good; their support stinks to say the least.
I have had two instances where I have followed their trails to email them and in each case got the same answer. Here is their latest communication (edited out the personal information):
report_2:
The McAfee Dispatch is distributed by McAfee.COM. I am in the sales
department for retail McAfee products. McAfee.COM is our sister company
and you would need to contact them if you have any issues with their
"ad" policy and the content of their dispatch. Perhaps their Membership
Services could respond to your question, or know where to direct you.
Their number is 1(408)992-8599.
Thank You,
McAfee Retail Sales

Subject: McAfee Dispatch
I like and want to continue receiveing the McAfee Dispatch but it continues to try and sell me Virus Scan Version 6. I already have it.
Two of every three dispatches are for buying Virus Scan 6.
Is there any way to get the dispatch to stop soliciting me for this already puchased product without unsubscribing to the dispatch itself?
Also, please note the following trail that has a 'gimmick' feel to it that only your reply can validate.
From the Dispatch itself:
McAfee.com Support: To contact us about this Dispatch, click here.
(which brought me to)
https://mcafee.digitalriver.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry16?sp=10107&pn=6&S1=END1&
S2=PAGE1&S3=&S4=&S5=&V1=&V2=&V3=&V4=&V5=&xid=39692
with this offering:
By Email: http://www.mcafeehelp.com
(which offered me this link)
http://www.mcafeehelp.com/
That led me to the link that opened my New message that I am writing to
now.
So, is the line within the Dispatch a real offer "To contact us about this Dispatch, click here" or is it there just because it looks good in the dispatch so people reading the dispatch will think that McAfee actually offers support with their product?
Regards,

My other commication resulted in the same response "Not my job".
This is the attitude normally associated with a company that is going out of business.
Sorry for getting a little off subject. I do not know the resolve.

LOL
I emailed them for three things two of the email came back that they where too technical for email support...
I emailed them back and said sorry I thought this was tech support email... with a few not so nice choosen words...
The other one came back with the same fix that was on the help site and I had said that fix didn't work in my email...
LOL maybe they can't read... and I know I didn't fit in the standard tech support 3X5 card
no arrow to follow so no answer...
I can say the virus engine does work cause right after I loaded VirusScan 6.... it detected a virus in a junk email while it was downloading from the server...
I don't open junk anyway it gets blocked and deleted.... So without mcafee running I would have never even known it was there cause it would have been gone anyway...
Thanks
Mac!!!

Hey Mac, I'm having trouble accessing your great website. Could it be in my settings or a Yahoo thing.
Bob
coolsights2000,
I'm also unable to access your site, although I've done it previously. It now comes up as a blank page with the Yahoo/Geocities ad on the side.

LOL I'll post this twice so you both get it...
It is a yahoo thing when you try to make a frame pages the banner will be in every frame so I did a little playing with the code to beat it but some how the server figures it out and changes the banner then it comes up as a blank page....
I'll change the code for a while then change it back....
Thanks
Mac!!!

Mac,
Thanks. I checked just now and it's back up & running, <font color=red>+</font color=red> frames, <font color=red>-</font color=red> Yahoo banners!
I'm glad it's back because I find your site, <a target="_blank" href=http://www.geocities.com/putertuneup/Main/Index.htm>'Puter Tune Up'</a>, very helpful.
