I'm having a problem with my interrnet connection when using my router. I've been using it for over a year and it's worked great until now. After a minute or two online it kicks me off or it comes up " lost internet connection". I got a new router and still the same thing is happening. If I bypass the router and connect directly to my cable modem, everything is fine. I'm wondering if there is a setting I could check on my computer that would affect the router. The other computer that is connected to the router works fine. I have a dell, p4 1.4GH win me system. The router is a 4 port linksys.
The other problem, (not sure if they are related), is an error message I get everytime I reboot. It says "Msbb has caused an error in MSBB.exe. Msbb will now close" What does that mean? Is it important?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Frank
maybe you installed a software that create a conflict with it.
Check the settings of your network card, can be damage.

Frank,
Nowadays spyware is everywhere, and that's what you seem to have. Try downloading and running Ad-Aware to rid your computer of it:

BE CAREFUL what you download!

I ran that program and removed entries but the problem still exists. The internet works fine when its directly connected to my modem so I don't think it's my network card. It's only a problem when I go through the router. I get disconnected more while using AOL than I do with IE. Don't know if that makes a difference.
Your thoughts?
Thanks, Frankk

"The other computer that is connected to the router works fine."
With that in mind, and seeing how its a 4 port router, try using a different port. If you've always had it plugged into port 1, and now its acting up, try using a different available port, just for kicks, and see what happens.

I did do that before, I've tried all the ports, and this is a brand new router. There probably wasn't anything wrong with my first router since the problem lives on.

Did you delete the msbb.exe file?
Have you checked all startup locations for anything else:
go to Start>Run, type msconfig, click the startup tab and check here.
To permanently remove the unchecked entries, backup the registry and/or export the following keys:
go to Start>Run, type regedit. Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Run-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices-
and delete the entry in the right pane.
Go to Start>Run, type notepad c:\win.ini and check for programs loading here:
[windows]
load=
run=
Check the Start>Programs>Startup folder for shorcuts.

Hi Guys, I changed my routers setting to "optain an ip adress automatically" and things seem to work fine. But then if I leave the computer for awhile, the browsers can't find any web pages. I have to reset the router again to "obtain ip...." before I can get back online. I tried to set my router back to the original ip adress that I started with but I forget what it was. Can I ping that? It wants "Specify WAN IP adress" I'm assuming it wants my ISP's ip adress?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Frank
