I just re-formatted & re-installed my OS and all programs (my 9-year old was unsupervised for 5 minutes). I am unable to thumbnail view .JPEG files in my folders. .BMP files work fine. I am a novice and really have no clue how to fix this. I'm assuming its a registry key issue. Can anyone help?

Are you seeing the program icon as the thumbnail?
Try changing the program jpegs open with and then change it back

Sorry, should have explained more.

Open windows explorer & click
Tools>Folder Options>File Types, scroll down to jpg & hit change. Choose paint or something similar.

See if that changes anything

Better solution
Click Start>Run , & copy the following regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll & press return

I wonder if it is just a coincidence and your child had nothing to do with it.
This usually happens when the shellex registry subkey under that particular filetype is missing.
I use WIN98 SE and here is a registry file which is used to restore thumbnail preview for Jpegs.
Copy the bold to Notepad. Save as Jpegthumb.reg Double click on it to enter into the registry
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg\ShellEx\{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}]

Thanks! I used the .reg file from Mosaic1 to repair. It is now working like it did before the re-install. What happenned is that my 9 year old managed to crash the OS pretty badly while on AOL. This caused a bnunch of problems that I only know how to fix by starting over from the beginning. The Jpeg problem is certainly my fault on the re-install. I like to delete all the junk programs that come pre-loaded w/ the CPU, and I deleted some shared files by mistake. I think.

Everything seems G2G now.

DanK...Thanks for the replies. I tried changing the associated program for the file types. No luck. I appreciate the help tremendously.

Mosaic1...Thanks a bunch for helping me out!
