10 years ago I saved some files under MSDOS using BACKUP. Now I have Windows 98 and I cannot find any programs which understand how to do what the MSDOS RESTORE utility used to do: get my files back.
Does anyone know of a utility that works under Windows 98 and that will do this? I've tried Winzip but it doesn't understand the format.

That's the downside of progress, older stuff [like me] gets left behind. If you could find a Win95 computer with Backup/Restore on it you might be able to retrieve it. I still have a hard drive with MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups on it just for such an occasion.
A more important problem is that Backup usually left an index on the hard drive and if that is missing [usually is] it may not be possible to retrieve the data. But one could always try, Restore may be able to retrieve it from the floppy/tape.
CharlesCameron,
I downloaded <font color=red>msbackup.zip</font color=red> from [/b]<a target="_blank" href=http://www.winhelp.dk/files/>[/b] this site</a>.
I have not attempted to use it, but there is a restore function. Would you be able to restore your files using that?
