Hello Everybody!

Is there anywhere that still offers the free version of QuickView for download? I use WinMe, so it wasn't included with my OS. I know an expanded version is available for sale, but I would like the freeware version which was available with W95/98.

Thank you,

Hi Nana,

Read "In Windows Millennium: Where's Quick View?" here: <a target="_blank" href=http://www.woram.com/letter/01-01.HTM>http://www.woram.com/letter/01-01.HTM</a>

John Woram has a fix.

Good luck, Tony

Nana, the QuickView installation in Win95/98 was good but quite limited on the formats it could view. I've been with the full version [QuickView Plus] since shortly after I saw its potential in Win95.

But to answer your delimna, QuickView is embedded in Win95/98 *.cab files. There probably is no way to extract all the files needed to have QV on WinME as there is no list [too embedded in Windows]. I just looked at the QV *.exe file in the Win95 .cab and it is only 20KB, that's way too small for what it can do, so there's a number of other files needed. And for WinME you'd need a version from Win98 due to the FAT32 drive format just to make sure it'd work.

I know $35 sounds like a lot of money for the download from <a target="_blank" href=http://www.jasc.com>http://www.jasc.com</a> but it is a powerful program.

You might do a Google search for surplus software for an older version, it's up to 7 now.

Tony,

Thank you very much. I have searched for QuickView for about 2 months at Microsoft & on Google. I didn't know what the file was called (quikvu.exe), so maybe that was my problem. Also, depending on where I looked, QuickView was spelled different ways - 1 word, 2 words and various permutations of letter combinations. And, of course, many of the references led to the JASC site.

Tony, thank you again. It is very much appreciated.

No prob, Nana! :)

I just did a Google search on keywords Millennium and Quickview myself, and the Woram link was among the first hits.

And I agree with Bert about Quickview Plus.

I've got it as well, and I love it!
Moreover, as it saves you from purchasing 225 other programs, it's probably the cheapest application in the world... /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif

Bert,

Thank you very much for your reply. You commented on the number of files in QuickView - there are 33 & it's 587kb. I found this out when I downloaded it from MS.

I want to try their version first to see if I will even use it. From all my searches over the past two months, I've learned it's very limited, but that's all I want for now.

I had a good chuckle at your comment:
<font color=blue>"I know $35 sounds like a lot of money. . . "</font color=blue>

You have no idea just how much! I live in the great white frozen north, otherwise known as Canada, where $35. USD pays my mortgage & house insurance for the year! /images/forums/icons/laugh.gif

Thanks again, Bert. I may get the JASC programme in the future.

Tony,

It never occured to me to add the word Millennium to my search at Google. I just looked for Quick View. I didn't get any hits that were of any use to me - OR I didn't realize that they would be of use & I didn't check them out any further.

Thanks again, Tony.
